What Kingdom Giving & Generosity is NOT

  1. Not to be done for show

  2. Can NOT be motivated by compulsion or reluctance

  3. NOT a substitute for Justice or Mercy

    1. Micah 6:8 “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

  4. Is NOT meant to be a burden

  5. is NOT the only way to serve God

  6. Is not how you earn salvation or position in the church.

Acts 6:1-4

“In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

Aristotle on gaining credibility as a speaker:

  • Ethos: Refers to the speaker’s character and ethic

  • Pathos: Refers to the emotional appeal of communication, specifically understanding the emotions of the audience to what is being communicated.

  • Logos: Refers to the crafting of the speech itself.

Matthew 23:23-24

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

Our Response:

  1. Continue to give generously

    1. $750/month away from achieving our goal to raise monthly giving at Missio by $2,500/month.

  2. Give Feedback on how Missio can give to Kingdom Work & Community

  3. Live Generously in Every aspect of our lives

Communion:

  • Head to the front to take communion

  • head back to your seat and reflect and pray over these questions

    • How am I living generously?

    • In what ways can I live more holistically generous in my life?

Benediction:

Our Father in heaven,

May your name be revered as holy.

May your kingdom come.

May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one.


May the strength of God pilot us;

May the wisdom of God instruct us,

May the hand of God protect us,

May the word of God direct us.

Be always ours this day and for evermore.
