Your Love Oh Lord

You love, Oh Lord-reaches to the heavens
Your faithfulness-stretches to the skies
Your righteousness-is like the mighty mountains
Your justice flows-like the ocean’s tides

I will lift my voice to worship you, My King
I will find my strength in the shadow of Your wings

Call to Worship

Jeremiah 29:10-14

“10 For thus says the Lord: Only when Babylon’s seventy years are completed will I visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. 11 For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.12 Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you.13 When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, 14 I will let you find me, says the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.”

Songs

This is My Father’s World

Verse 1
This is my Father’s world,
and to my listening ears
all nature sings, and round me rings
the music of the spheres.

This is my Father’s world;
I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas,
his hand the wonders wrought.

Verse 2
This is my Father’s world,
the birds their carols raise,
the morning light, the lily white
declare their maker’s praise.

This is my Father’s world
He shines in all that’s fair
in the rustling grass I hear him pass;
he speaks to me everywhere

Verse 3
This is my Father’s world.
O Let me ne’er forget
that though the wrong seems oft to strong
God is the ruler yet

This is my Father’s world:
the battle is not done,
Jesus who died shall be satisfied
And earth and Heaven be one.

Beautiful Scandalous Night

Go on up to the mountain of mercy
to the crimson perpetual tide
Kneel does on the shore, be thirsty no more
Go under and be purified

Follow Christ to the Holy Mountain
Sinner, sorry and wrecked by the fall
Cleanse your heart and your soul
in the fountain that flows
For you and for me and for all

Chorus
At the wonderful tragic mysterious tree
On that beautiful scandalous night you and me
Were atoned by his blood and forever washed white
on that beautiful scandalous night

On the hillside you will be delivered
at the foot of the cross justified
and your spirit restored, by the river that pours
From our blessed savior’s side

Revelation Song

Worthy is the, lamb who was slain
Holy, Holy, is He
Sing a new song, to him who sits on
Heaven’s mercy seat

Chorus
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
with all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore you

Verse 2
Clothed in rainbow, of living colors
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and glory and power be
To you the only wise King

Chorus
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
with all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore you

Verse 3
Filled with wonder, awestruck wonder
At the mention of your name
Jesus your name is power
Breath of living water
Such a marvelous mystery

Chorus
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
with all creation I sing
Praise to the King of Kings
You are my everything
And I will adore you

Teaching: Faith in Exile: Introduction

Jeremiah 29:4-14

4 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. 7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.8 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let the prophets and the diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to your dreams that you dream, 9 for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you in my name; I did not send them, says the Lord.

10 For thus says the Lord: Only when Babylon’s seventy years are completed will I visit you, and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place.

John 14:1-7

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.2 In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.7 If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Communion:

  • Head up to the front to take communion.

  • Return to your seat and reflect on the following questions:

    • What does it mean to you to be a person living in a land that is not your home?

    • How have you lived the 3rd way of Faith in Exile in your life?

Benediction:

As we live as exiles in the world

may we work for the welfare of our city.

Lifting all things to God in prayer.

While we may encounter trials and tribulations,

let us remember who we belong to and where our faith lies.

Living lives allegiant to Jesus, obedient to his ways,

and hopeful for his renewal of all things.

“Now to him who is able to keep you from falling

and to make you stand without blemish in the

presence of his glory with rejoicing,

to the only God our Savior,

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all

time and now and forever. Amen.” (Jude 1:24-25)
