All Glory Be To Christ
Verse 1
Should nothing of our efforts stand, no legacy survive
unless the Lord does raise the house, in vain its building strive
To you who boast tomorrow’s gain, tell me what is your life
A mist that vanishes at dawn, All glory be to Christ
Chorus
All Glory be to Christ our King
All Glory be to Christ
his rule and reign we’ll ever sing
All glory be to Christ
verse 2
His will be done, his kingdom come, on earth as is above
Who is himself our daily bread, praise him the Lord of Love
Let living water satisfy, the thirsty without price
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet, all glory be to Chrust
Verse 3
When on the day the great I am, the faithful and the true
The lamb who was for sinners slain, is making all things new
Behold our God shall live with us, and be our steadfast light
And we shall ere his people be, All glory be to Christ
Advent Candle Lighting: Peace & Joy
Songs
Joy To the World
Verse 1
Joy to the world the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and heav'n and nature sing
Verse 2
Joy to the earth the Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat repeat the sounding joy
Verse 3
No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as far as the curse is found
Verse 4
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders wonders of His love
Man of Sorrows
Man of Sorrows, Lamb of God, By his own betrayed
The sin of man and wrath of God, has been on Jesus laid
Silent as he stood accused, beaten mocked, and scorned
Bowing to the Father’s will, he took a crown of thorns
Oh that rugged cross; my salvation
Where your love poured out for me
Now my should cries out Hallelujah, praise and honor unto thee
Sent from Heaven God’s own son, to purchase and redeem
And reconcile the very ones, who nailed him to that tree
Now my debt is paid, it is paid in full
By the precious blood that my Jesus spilled
Now the curse of sin, has no hold on on me
Whom the son sets free, oh is free indeed
See the stone is rolled away, behold the empty tomb
Hallelujah, God be Parised. He is risen from the grace.
Silent Night
Verse 1
Silent night holy night
All is calm all is bright
'Round yon virgin mother and Child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Verse 2
Silent night holy night
Son of God love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus Lord at Thy birth
Jesus Lord at Thy birth
Verse 3
Silent night holy night
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heav'nly hosts sing hallelujah
Christ the Savior is born
Christ the Savior is born
Teaching:
Isaiah 11:1-7
“A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.2 The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.3 His delight shall be in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see or decide by what his ears hear,4 but with righteousness he shall judge for the poor and decide with equity for the oppressed of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked5 Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist and faithfulness the belt around his loins.6The wolf shall live with the lamb; the leopard shall lie down with the kid; the calf and the lion will feed together, and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze; their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play over the hole of the snake, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the snake’s den. They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
“Peace must be dared. It is the great venture. We are not Christ. But if we want to be Christians, we must have some share in Christ’s large-heartedness by acting with responsibility and in freedom when the hour of danger comes, and by showing a real compassion that springs, not from fear, but from the liberating and redeeming love of Christ for all who suffer. Mere waiting and looking on is not Christian behavior. Christians are called to compassion and action, not in the first place by their own sufferings, but by the suffering of their brothers and sisters for whose sake Christ suffered.”
Isaiah 9:1-7
“But there will be no gloom for those who were in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness- on them light has shined. You have multiplied exultation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as people exult when dividing plunder. For the yoke of their burden and the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. For all the boots of the tramping warriors and all the garments rolled in blood shall be burned as fuel for the fire. For a child has been born to us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders, and he is named, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Great will be his authority and their will be endless peace for the throne of David and his Kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”
Communion:
Head up to the front to take communion.
Return to your seat and reflect on the following questions:
What does real Peace and Joy look like in your life?
Benediction:
Move among us, Spirit,
and gather us together with you.
Take our many selves—
our lives, our loves, our ideas,
our questions, our speech, our silence—
and unite us as your people.
Give us the gifts of presence, transformation and guidance,
so that even as we dream your dreams and see your visions,
we may be able to witness to your presence
in our common life.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.—(2 Corinthians 13:14)
Amen.
